Job Description Summary

SUMMARY
The Immigration and Visa Services Coordinator is a half time (20 hour a week) 12 month position which advises international students and/or scholars regarding federal immigration laws and requirements and related Husson University processes and policies. The Coordinator is responsible for understanding, interpreting, explaining and applying federal immigration regulations pertaining to international students and scholars and for directly updating and maintaining the US government’s SEVIS database of international student and scholar records, complying with all federal regulations. The Immigration and Visa Services Coordinator will be the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) registered with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency and must be a US citizen or permanent resident.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee compliance and maintenance of Husson University immigration and visa records for F-1 students and scholars
• Oversee compliance and updates of Husson University immigration and visa certifications and SEVP/SEVIS data base
• Advise and support F-1 students and scholars in immigration laws and requirements, providing current, accurate, and consistent information in appropriate and timely manner
• Oversee preparation and delivery of I-20 documentation for admitted students, including timely and accurate communication and correspondence with students, agents, sponsors, or other necessary parties
• Oversee training and performance of all system DSO’s on Bangor, Presque Isle, and Southern Maine campuses
• Develop and maintain clear, accurate, and appropriate immigration and visa information and instructional data in University publications, website, or social media outlets
• Support Husson University mission and strategic plan in consulting and advising in special projects, committees, or programming in areas relevant to immigration issues
• Support and inform the Director of International Admissions and other appropriate administrators in relevant projects through consultation and periodic reports on student and SEVIS/SEVP status.
• Consult with appropriate faculty, staff and departments to interpret and ensure compliance of regulations in areas such as student employment, internships, travel, and finances
• Participate in professional development activities that ensure accurate knowledge of current federal regulations and laws relating to immigration and visa requirements
• Teach one classes during the academic year or during summer session
• Provide consultation to faculty and staff to support the implementation of strategies for successful acculturation and academic performance for international students

Education and Experience

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
Experience:
• Two or more years international study, intern, and/or volunteer experience preferred
• Two or more years’ experience as a DSO, PDSO or equivalent preferred
Other:
• Proof of US citizenship or permanent residence

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
• Effective advising and intercultural communication techniques
• Strong oral and written interpersonal skills using tact, patience, courtesy and diplomacy
• Proficiency in methods and techniques of student advising
• Proficiency in SEVIS/SEVP regulations and requirements preferred
• Ability to multi-task, take initiative, and prioritize tasks in a deadline driven environment
• Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others in a team setting
• Ability to communicate clearly in English with native-level fluency
