Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The overall purpose of this job is to assist in the basic food preparation and service of meals.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide supervision of Cook II and Dish room/Utility staff
• Participate in menu and recipe development
• Provide leadership in the absence of Executive Chef and/or Executive Sous Chef
• Serve and maintain food quantities for large numbers of people
• Assist with general cleaning chores in the dining area and kitchen
• Set up, break down and maintain independent serveries
• Provide assistance with catered functions
• Provide guidance to student employees
• Be well groomed and wear the proper issued uniform
• Assist with stocking as requested
• Participate in training, as well as other departmental function requirements
• Other duties as requested
• Must have non-slip shoes

Education and Experience

• Knowledge and experience applying basic culinary techniques
• Ability to operate and maintain production equipment
• Basic knife skills, and the ability to grill, sauté, roast, broil, and fry food
• Knowledge of proper/safe time and temperature for food handling
• Ability to operate small kitchen equipment, including Robo-coup, mandolin, mixers, emersion blenders, potato peeler, etc.
• Must have good customer service skills
• Ability to work well independently as well as within a team
• Serve-Safe Certified or the ability to become certified

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate’s degree in culinary arts preferred

Experience: At least two years relevant experience preferred. Persons with more than five years relevant experience and no degree will also be considered qualified.
